<image:caption>I Snorted Paris Hilton's Coke, Dealt at Dartmouth, 4-Month Psychotic Hell, Secret Marriage This week on Dopey! It's Christmas Eve! Wishing all the listeners a Merry Fucking Christmas! This week we open the show reminding everyone about patreon and reading a note from incarcerated Dope - Montana about prison life, Toastmasters, college aspirations, and his badass DIY cubicle decor. We reflects on Christmas's universal meaning – love, hope, togetherness – while sending love to the Reiner family. The main interview features longtime friend and DopeyCon organizer Rachel Hechtman (@soberincentralpark), recorded the day the Nick Reiner news broke. Rachel shares her wild journey: early drinking and coke at 14, boarding school antics (including Paris Hilton-sourced coke), dealing at Dartmouth, drug-induced psychosis, a secret marriage to an Italian guy (Giuseppe!), massive weight loss (80 lbs), and getting sober through daily Central Park walks with her dog George during COVID – no 12-step, just determination, walking, and community-building. All that plus copious Nick Reiner Spotify comments on this brand new Wednesday version of that good old dopey show! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. In this episode, I’m joined by my friend Rachel (@soberincentralpark) as we finally unpack our trek to Machu Picchu — the altitude sickness, panic attacks, injuries, tears, fear, rage, and moments where we truly didn’t know if we could keep going. This isn’t a highlight reel. It’s an honest conversation about: What happens when expectations don’t match reality Navigating fear and overwhelm in the middle of nowhere The emotional side of endurance challenges no one prepares you for How resilience is built when you don’t have an exit plan We also talk about why experiences like this stay with you — not because they were perfect, but because they show you what you’re capable of. If you’ve ever felt unprepared, pushed past your limits, or proud of yourself after something broke you open...this episode is for you.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Sober Event Creator Rachel Hechtman: From Boozy Nights to Building a Joyful Alcohol-Free Life In this week’s Sober Life Rocks Podcast, we sat down with sober event creator Rachel Hechtman—an alcohol-free advocate, coach, and all-around force of nature. Rachel’s story is one of radical transformation, fueled by honesty, clarity, and a passion for building joyful, sober social spaces. The Early Years: Anxiety, ADHD, and the Search for Relief Rachel grew up struggling with undiagnosed ADHD and anxiety. By middle school, alcohol became her coping mechanism. A pivotal moment came when a teacher asked her if she’d taken her medication—leading to an ADHD diagnosis and a new chapter in her life. College Life and the Spiral of Social Drinking College life in Manhattan brought new challenges. Drinking was the norm, and Rachel leaned into the party culture to manage her anxiety. Behind the fun, she felt overwhelmed and disconnected. COVID Gave Her the Pause She Needed When the world shut down, Rachel took stock of her life. With toxic routines removed, she was still anxious—leading to a powerful realization: maybe the problem wasn’t everything around her. Maybe it was time for something new. Dry January and an Unexpected Breakthrough What started as a reluctant agreement to try Dry January with her mom turned into something bigger. Day by day, Rachel felt better. The mental fog cleared, and by February, she chose to keep going. Losing Old Friends and Finding Her People Many of her drinking friendships faded. But then she attended a San’s Bar pop-up—a non-alcoholic event that changed everything. It sparked her mission to build sober social spaces for others like her. Building an Alcohol-Free Community Rachel began hosting alcohol-free pop-ups, partnering with restaurants, and curating zero-proof drink tables. Her Instagram blew up. People resonated with her vibrant energy and were eager to join her events. From Coaching to Creating Soft Bar NYC To offer deeper support, Rachel trained as an alcohol-free coach. Now, she’s preparing to launch Soft Bar NYC, a full-fledged non-alcoholic bar where sober and sober-curious folks can connect without compromise. Living Loud, Sober, and Proud Rachel isn’t just surviving sobriety—she’s thriving. Her story shows that sobriety doesn’t mean isolation. It means freedom, clarity, connection, and joy. Final Thoughts: From Self-Medicating to Self-Empowered Rachel Hechtman’s journey is proof that sobriety isn’t about what you’re giving up—it’s about what you’re gaining. Confidence. Clarity. Real connection. And a life you can be proud of. <image:caption>SHARING OUT LOUD Podcast On January 3, 2021, about 6 months after a wake-up call amid the pandemic, Rachel decided to try Dry January. She was the heaviest she had ever been, she was unemployed, had no motivation, and was in a marriage that had been done for a while. As Dry January moved into February, February into March... Rachel drastically changed her lifestyle and replaced alcohol with alternatives, like water and walking (to Central Park of course), and began making better decisions about her nutrition. Though not always easy, sobriety brought so many benefits and rewards. Rachel's mental health improved and in turn, her depression and anxiety became more manageable. And what about all the walking around and in Central Park? She lost 100lbs! As Rachel started following and communicating with other sober women on social media, she realized she could make a difference if she were to share her story "OUT LOUD" and so began Sober In Central Park. What began as a “Dry January” experiment has now blossomed into a Sober Career! She has become a life coach, a N/A brand spokesperson (bringing N/A drink brands to restaurants in NYC!), a motivational speaker, and now a sober retreat leader! The sky is the limit for Rachel, and it can be for you too!</image:caption>

<image:caption>RecoveryPlusPodcast: F*ck yesterday, Focus on Today! Rachel Hechtman had her first drink when she was 14. Alcohol quickly became a crutch and a way to numb the pain of her childhood traumas, her parents’ divorce, the onset of her anxiety/depression. It provided the escape she was always searching for. Rachel’s drinking increased in her teen’s requiring repeating sophomore year at a boarding school. She was then diagnosed with ADHD which was life-changing as she always felt she was different. However, boarding school helped Rachel focus and she excelled academically, and got into Dartmouth College. At Dartmouth, drinking was normal and expected. Unfortunately, partying turned into violence. Rachel was sexually assaulted and then experienced other traumatic events, culminating in excessive drinking and drug abuse. Rachel’s 20’s was a dark period in her life. After graduating Dartmouth College, now in her 30’s, Rachel stopped “partying”, however, was stuck in a cycle of drinking after work, doing Happy Hours, getting a horrible night’s sleep, waking up feeling like crap, poor eating habits, and having no motivation to exercise. On January 3, 2021, Rachel decided to try Dry January…something had to change. She was the heaviest she had ever been, unemployed, no motivation, and in a relationship that had long expired and her anxiety and paranoia were at an all-time high. Rachel is now two years, plus alcohol free and her entire life has drastically changed in the most magical and amazing way! Improving her mental health, physical well-being, to include a spiritual awareness. Quitting alcohol was the best decision she has ever made. Rachel is eternally grateful that she put myself first and broke the vicious and toxic trap drinking created in her life. As Rachel continues to work through her past traumas and recover out loud, her goal is to share her story in hopes of helping others who are suffering in silence. Now, Rachel is an alcohol-free event consultant and content creator of Sober In Central Park. She is a multifaceted entrepreneur who wears many hats in the world of FUN sober living. Rachel provides a wide-range of services for people looking to create fun, engaging booze-free events that promote community and connection. Her expertise in event planning stems from her career in nonprofit philanthropy and events. Rachel is also a talented social media content creator. Her posts on Instagram showcase the beautiful reality of an alcohol-free lifestyle, inspiring others to embrace the many benefits of sobriety. She is a leading voice in the growing movement of alcohol-free social media content creators, and her work has helped to normalize and glamorize the idea that you can have a fun and fulfilling social life without alcohol. Rachel is currently recording the first season of her new podcast.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Sober Motivation Podcast Rachel started drinking and using drugs at 14. The substances helped keep her distracted from the internal pain different life events caused. The alcohol and drug use would carry on for many years and Rachel found herself lost in this great big world. The pandemic was a blessing. Rachel is forever grateful for her painful journey of addiction because her alcohol-free life would not mean anywhere near as much without the struggle beforehand. <image:caption>The Joanne Oswell Jones Podcast Ever wondered what an alcohol-free lifestyle looks like? Joining me for the conversation today is Rachel Hechtman. Rachel reached for her first alcoholic drink aged 14. Alcohol quickly became a crutch for her and it always seemed to be there for her... Not letting her down, alcohol was there waiting for her at the end of each day. But it did let her down, it gave rise to anxiety and depression. Most days Rachel would wake up feeling grotty, tired, hungover and wondering how she was going to make it through the day if that wasn't enough, being anesthetized by alcohol put Rachel in some frightening and potentially dangerous situations. Rachel knew that something needed to change - "I knew that a lot of things in my life needed to change and I remember the moment that it all clicked into place. I thought to myself, how do people get up in the morning feeling energized and happy, go do a work-out before work, eat healthily, meal plan, and have active social lives...I realised that these people are not drinking every night the way I am. They are not falling asleep on the sofa, and they are not waking up feeling like crap with a hangover, so it really dawned on me that the alcohol was the piece I needed to change and let go of in order to get all those other pieces of my life functioning" Today this incredible woman is 500+ days sober and living her best, magical life! Not only is Rachel rocking her own personal and emotional development she is inspiring thousands of people around the world with her personal story and journey of “recovering out loud”. From boarding school to Dartmouth to adult life in NYC, drinking was always there, until it started stealing everything that made her feel like herself. After years of dark cycles, Rachel finally said enough. She’s now over four years sober, down 100 pounds, and the healthiest, happiest, and most connected she’s ever been, mentally, physically, and spiritually. This episode is about healing out loud, breaking cycles, and proving that party girls can absolutely transform, and have more fun than ever. Exciting announcement!

Rachel has been sober since January 3 2021 and this is her story on the sober motivation podcast. Rachel is the host of the Soberincentralpark on IG.</image:caption>
